Produced from a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc, the Château Léoville Poyferré 2018 is a Saint-Julien with a singular style.

The 2018 Le Pavillon de Léoville-Poyferré has gained finesse during the course of its aging. Mid-weight and silky, the 2018 is gorgeous today. Ripe red/purplish berry and floral notes are beautifully layered. Above all else, the 2018 exudes balance and class.

The Petit Verdot in the blend really comes through in the structure—this has a seriousness that the Merlot softens just enough for a long evening. I let it sit in the glass for a while and the layers kept unfolding, a proper Saint-Julien that feels built for the cellar but drinks beautifully now.

Opened this after letting it breathe for two hours and the Petit Verdot gives it this lovely lift on the finish that I wasn't expecting. The 60% Cabernet backbone keeps it structured but it's already drinking smoothly. Easily the best Saint-Julien I've tucked away this year.

The Cabernet Sauvignon really drives this blend, giving it that classic Saint-Julien backbone without being too heavy. Let it breathe for a good hour and the Petit Verdot adds a nice lift on the finish. Already drinking beautifully but I can tell it’s got years ahead of it.
