Pear, Date & Cognac Chutney 114g (CA)

I was a little skeptical about a fruit chutney with cognac, but the snow pears and slowly ripened dates give it a deep, caramel-like sweetness that’s perfect on a sharp cheddar. It’s got a lovely thick texture that stays put on the cracker.

The cognac really comes through without being boozy, and it’s sweet but not cloying next to a sharp cheddar. The pear and date bits give it a nice chunky texture that spreads easily. Gone through half the jar in two days.

Opened this for a cheese night and the snow pears give it a light, almost crisp sweetness that cuts through sharp cheddar beautifully. The dates make it sticky and rich, but the cognac keeps it from feeling heavy. A small jar but a little goes a long way.
